Ikaho’s history is old, and Ikaho is sung in the Toho Songs of the Manyoshu, Ikaho in the Nara period can be considered. Ikaho at that time seems to have been called Ikaho, including the majority of Mt. Haruna in a wider range than the current area.
History
In response to the pilgrimage of the West, Mizusawa Temple was selected as the 16th gate in the Kanto region, and many pilgrims came to visit. Haruna Shrine also gathered faith, Haruna was a tourist attraction in the Edo period, and many people visited it as a result of bathing. Ikaho greeted the golden era in Genroku era and culture and civilization era.
In the Edo era, Ikaho’s Yuji became a big boom, people of all sorts such as samurai, townspeople and farmers in each clan came to visit Ikaho, and the number of people coming and going has increased, so the mouthful address was set up.
It is a historical shrine that is located at the top of the stone steps town, famous as the Ueno country Sannomiya. It is a hot spring, a god of medical care, and the precincts have a majestic atmosphere. You can overlook the spa town.
Ikaho was often hit by a big fire. The cause is because it is on the middle of Mt. Haruna, so wind blows up from the bottom up, so it spreads as soon as a fire occurs. And it was impossible to extinguish because it was a chronic shortage of water, that the misfire by the traveler could not be prevented. The record of the big fire burning out the majority of the town has remained since Kanbun 6 (1666).
In 1823, the Miyauchi Province decided to purchase the villa of the former House of Councilors Kanai Noyomi and its vicinity to be “Ikaho Garden”. The royal family came to visit Ikaho every year since the choir of the Mansion, and in 1954 the Imperial House was transferred to the Ministry of Education, and it has reached the present.
Mr. Robert Walker · Alwin, who was a Consul General of Hawaii in Japan in the Meiji era and was a big Japanese expert, had a cottage in Ikaho. It was written in the guidance around the Meiji period 30 as “Villa in the State of Hawaii,” and since then it has become one of the sights. It is now a cultural asset designated by the town.
Mr. Kogure, Mr. Chigira, Mr. Kishi, Mr. Oshima, Mr. Shimada, Mr. Mochizuki (Nagai), Mr. Gokan, who was a local residence in the Tensho 4th year (1576) moved the village from Yumoto to his present location, the stone steps of Ikaho I made a city. It is the first hot spring resort city plan in Japan to draw hot springs from Yumoto, make stone steps, adjust the left and right side down the tub, and divide the hot water into the partitioned houses. After that, when the provision of the hot spring structure concerning the hot water supply right was settled in 16th year of Kanei (1639), it was Mr. Toshi who had a hot spring hot spring.
In the 14 households there was a gate shop serving as a familial story, respectively, and land and washi were left from the landlord and dealt with the Yuji mansion. A group of large-scale bus group travelers came to Ikaho so that plans were made to construct a new hot spring town by opening the neighborhood of Sakazawa district to the private to accept the ever-increasing number of tourists. Since this land was to be sold to applicants, the entry of inns from different industries increased. Ikaho became the first pilot for such efforts, not yet in other hot spring areas. Because many people wanted to manage the ryokan, in 1954 the lottery was declared a permission to run the ryokan, which was called the “Great Ikaho Project.”
Culture / Ikaho First tale of the story
Since it is a land pattern with heavy thunderstorms, we installed a lightning rod in rural areas at the Ikaho’s shrine (built in 1823). This is said to be the forerunner of lightning rod spreading nationwide.
Under the guidance of Dr. Belt who visited Ikaho during the Meiji era, planned is “hot spring health park (Kuaparque)” of natural park with hot spring bathhouse. It is assumed to be Baden-Baden in Germany and Evian in France, Yachi Ryokan’s Yachiyo park was built by pioneers at the time.
Regarding environmental hygiene, such as examination of the abolition of the prostitution system and comprehensive management of urination, we also took the lead in other ways based on the guidance of Dr. Belt. The installation of a large amount of gas light to brighten the town leads to the construction of a later town power plant, and Cinchin train of Ikaho orbit that carries tourists departed early.
There is the theory that Ikaho was designated designated resort of Yokohama foreign settlement, many famous foreigners visiting Meiji and Taisho from the end of the Tokugawa period. Sir Ernest Sato, the British minister, French army officer Lt. Captain of the Bakufu army military adviser, and many other visits remain in the record. Long ago international negotiations were taking place at Ikaho.
Art
Tokutomi Roka and Mr. and Mrs. Tokutomi visited Ikaho ten times during his lifetime, saying, “If the two people meet in the afterlife, the place will be Ikaho.” It was in May of Meiji 31 in the beginning, in July of Showa 2 that was the last time, I went to Ikaho choosing the place of the end.
Writer of the Meiji era, Tokutomi Rika. His representative work, the novel “Nonfiction”, was written here. Rape flowers who had suffered from their late bodies visited Ikaho again for curing and closed their lives in this area. It is this literature hall that was established to relocate the deadly villa, to leave it with future generations, along with a large number of relics.
In Ikaho there are many facilities related to TakuSa’s art centering on the artistic promenade “Altenade” where art museums such as the Shibukawa Museum of Art, Kuwabara Maoori Sculpture Art Museum and Japan Chanson Museum and amusement facilities are lining up.
